Hi, I'm Dennis

I planned to do the same for my healthy parents for a dozen years but never ‘got around to it’. Then my Mum had a heart attack at 69 years of age. She survived thankfully but I nearly lost the opportunity to really ask her about her life. That would have been even more of a devastating loss. Especially since I had a plan to do it. There’s always good intentions to do things but life always gets in the way.

What nearly went wrong for me?

What inspired me to do this?

A dozen years ago a friend’s father died of Lung Cancer. His family interviewed him with a home video camera before he got too sick. Rather than just remembering the usual stories he told over the years or asking Mum or Uncle about a Dad story, they asked all the questions that gave the full picture of his life from the person who knew the story best. The man who eventually passed away.

Hearing in his words all of the smaller details about being a kid, growing up, meeting his wife, having children, the adventures, the trials and the celebrations was a moment that shook me and gave me an amazing experience. I needed to do this for my family. Not just my older members but everyone. The biography videos are done now for my family members and I am happy and relieved.

Who should do a life interview?

Everyone! The young. The middle aged. The old. The sick. The healthy. We all have stories to tell. We are all important to someone. Preserve your legacy with an intimate video recording where you are most comfortable to give it. Repeat the process down the road. Compare your life as a single 30 year old versus when you are 40 with a partner and maybe kids. Or after life has changed your views.

What about a handwritten journal?

Nothing compares to a story told by the person who lived it. Their voice, face and personality enriches the experience greatly.

90% of memoirs remain unfinished. A lack of time or motivation. Shaky hands or arthritis. Stories that are too long to write down. Not a great writer... Younger people rarely write memoirs. But if sickness or an accident took you away, who would get to hear your whole story? Your kids? No. Your nephews or nieces? No. Your friends? No.

This film ensures your stories, and you, aren’t lost or forgotten. Too many precious memories fade with time—let me help you share them with your family and friends before the opportunity slips away.

Why choose me?

Firstly, I’m a nice guy and people are comfortable with me. I will keep it relaxed and simple.
Secondly, I am all about the story. Fancy camera angles or lakeside walking won’t replace a well told story.
The film will give you up to 90 minutes of story telling. The industry 'norm' is a 15 minute documentary. I'm offering at least 4 or more times the story telling time.
Other 1 hour Interviews are far more expensive. Prices range from $4999 to $12000 + GST
With me you can add in up to 60 personal photos. Generally it is 30 for other service providers. I can professionally scan your photos as part of the service. A service not often offered.
You get the whole story. Not just the parts you may already know.

How do we do it?

We chat on the phone or with a video call.
I will send you a discussion Subject list. You tell me if there are subjects you would prefer to leave out.
Before the interview date you prepare the photos you would like to include. For paper / card photos I can use my portable professional photo scanner to scan your photos quickly. I will copy your digital photos onto my USB.
A deposit of $500 will be paid before the Interview day. This is fully refundable IF YOU CANCEL BEFORE THE SCHEDULED DAY. The deposit will cover costs for time, travel and the interview if you haven't canceled before the day of the interview.
The whole interview process including the equipment set up will take about 2-3 hours maximum.
Allow 1 to 2 weeks to edit the Video
You will be given your Full Edited Interview on a decorative wooden Maple USB with Box. Extra decorative USB and Box copies can be made available.
Optional: An email with a ‘private’ online video link to a Digital Copy if requested. Only the person/s with the link can see the film.
